Mascot: Howie the Owl

Because community involvement is important to us, we created a massive campaign to find the perfect name for our mascot. It was important that the name was something children and young adults would relate to since our mascot will visit them often in their schools and community events.

The name "Howie" was chosen from hundreds of submissions made to us from children across the Rio Grande Valley through the Newspapers In Education Campaign created by The Monitor newspaper.

“Howie”

The name was submitted by the following children:

Marco Reyna

Eric Resendiz

Volunteerism

RGV College promotes philanthropy and civic duty within their student base to strengthen the belief that we must all do something for another to help make our community stronger. By practicing positive changes, whether they are small, like carpooling, to collecting hundreds of pounds of food to feed the needy, we believe that once the seed of good deed is planted, it will grow and give blessing to those around our students’ lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have answers for your questions!

There are many questions our candidates have when they first come into our institution and while we do recommend that you visit us personally to assist you much better, below are some of the most common questions students have about vocational education.

You will be completing your course of study based on hours, not credits that are obtained. However, once you have completed the course you have chosen, you may be able to continue advancing in that branch of medicine with transferable courses. For instance, if you graduate as a vocational nurse and become licensed by the state of Texas, you may then qualify to continue your education by utilizing your license to apply for higher education and get into a Registered Nurse.
In this video, we'll discuss your options for obtaining financing with RGV College:

We offer pre-health professional courses that will act as a trampoline to introduce you into the healthcare field and allow you to get hands-on experience so that you can continue to climb the career ladder in whichever branch of medicine you choose.
The courses we offer are different lengths and cost, depending on which you choose. Because we do work with FAFSA, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Migrant Council, and various other entities to help you find the financial assistance you may qualify for and the total amount of out-of-pocket cost, if any, is defined in an case-by-case basis.
Because we have the advantage of knowing you on a personal level and our focus is your success, we will do whatever is in our power to ensure your journey to make a career change is a rewarding one with tutoring.
Because we want you to invest all the time you can to preparing for your new career, we recommend you not work while attending. But we understand that in addition to being a student, you have a life outside of school. We do offer afternoon and evening courses for those students who may be unable to attend class during the day..
In this video, RGV College School Director, Annabelle Palomo, discusses the school’s high passing rate and why so many students succeed at passing the state exam.

Our school is designed to offer our students an environment setting they can succeed in with our classrooms. Our classes are not too large and our instructors communicate with one another with student well-being in mind. Courses are delivered in a manner so that you do not become overwhelmed and at a pace that allows you comprehension of the material.
In Vocational Education, you have the great advantage of finishing a medical certification or license in a short amount of time. There are no prerequisites or remedial courses. If you are looking for a medical career available in a vocational setting, this is the best way to obtain a license!
In this video, RGV College School Director, Annabelle Palomo, discusses the school’s 9 year accreditation, what this means and how this benefits students seeking a career in the medical field:

We do not ask that you take any classes prior to enrolling in our institute. If you are interested in the Vocational Nursing program, we ask that you have some background in the medical field and an entrance exam is required before you are accepted into the program as prerequisites. We do view each person individually and would be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding enrollment pre-qualification.
There is no other institute like ours in the Rio Grande Valley. Our dedication to help you change your life is what drives us to improve every aspect of our school. Our goal is to help mold not only competent caring healthcare professionals, but a better well-rounded member of our community.
